“Saint Kitts and Nevis and Zimbabwe Strengthen Ties Through Visa Exemption Agreement”

New York, USA – On the sidelines of the bustling United Nations General Debate this week in New York, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Zimbabwe came together in a brief yet significant ceremony to solidify their commitment to fostering closer ties. The two nations signed an Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption, extending this privilege to holders of Diplomatic, Official, and Ordinary Passports. The accord was inked by The Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saint Kitts and Nevis, and his Zimbabwean counterpart, H.E. Frederick Shava.

Both Ministers echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that this agreement would greatly streamline access for their respective citizens to each other’s countries, be it for tourism or business purposes, as they work towards strengthening people-to-people connections.

The discussions between the high-ranking representatives of these nations were marked by a spirit of camaraderie, rooted in their shared heritage and historical milestones. Zimbabwe, for instance, proudly achieved independence from British colonial rule on April 18, 1980, becoming the last African state to do so. Just three years later, Saint Kitts and Nevis followed suit, further cementing the bond between them.

Saint Kitts and Nevis and Zimbabwe officially established diplomatic relations on November 30, 2021. While substantive cooperation between the two countries has been limited thus far, the Foreign Ministers held productive talks concerning the establishment of a joint commission. This commission will play a pivotal role in devising a framework for collaboration in mutually advantageous areas.

Zimbabwe, a landlocked country situated in southern Africa, boasts remarkable natural wonders, including the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls. Spanning just over a mile, this majestic waterfall is more than twice as wide and almost twice as tall as Niagara Falls, adding to the allure of the country as a destination for traveler’s seeking unforgettable experiences.
